Environmental Justice

Begins October 25

Environmental justice is achieved when everyone enjoys the same degree of protection from environmental and health hazards, and equal access to the decision-making process to have a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work.

Kieshaun White and Marcel Woodruff join the discussion and introduce us to Healthy Fresno Air a program providing grants to put more than a dozen air quality monitors throughout the city. It all began as a science project for Kieshaun where he conducted experiments showing a 25-year life expectancy difference between the north Fresno and southwest Fresno. Along with his mentor Marcel Woodruff, an organizer for Faith in the Valley, they started Healthy Fresno Air in 2018.

Faith in the Valley is a faith-based grassroots community organization in California’s Central Valley. Their work is led by volunteer leaders who are among the people most impacted by equity issues: low-wage workers, young people, immigrants and the formerly incarcerated.
